Designed an automated temperature monitoring reminder system for 63 Internal Medicine Residents. Cross-referenced scheduling data from New-Innovations (web-based scheduling software) to send timely reminders for temperature reporting. Integrated reminders with SMS and WhatsApp APIs to facilitate prompt response. Stored temperature logs in a SQL database for administrative review as requested. Automated escalation if fever/symptoms are reported. Through this home-brewed software, we were able to predict sick calls better ahead of time and redeploy resources to ensure appropriate staffing in the inpatient units.

Designed a HIPAA Compliant web-based platform to collect, analyze, and distribute stroke patient data. Facilitated customized report generation and distribution to analyze stroke protocol parameters to capture outliers within hours compared to monthly/quarterly patient data analytics. Improved appropriate stroke compliance for gold star rating for upwards of 500 patients per annum. Reduced door to thrombolytic time. Wrote custom algorithms to identify breakdowns in workflow and automated email reports to departmental and quality chairpersons for immediate intervention.

Worked with Allscripts EHR to make a custom patient hand-off report for the department of medicine. Added the ability to auto-populate labs, vitals, admission diagnosis, and active medical problems. The initiative reduced handoff errors and reduced handoff time required from an average of 60 minutes to 40 minutes.

Restructured an open-source “Moodle” E-Learning Platform to facilitate asynchronous learning in the Internal Medicine Residency Program due to social distancing requirements during the COVID-19 pandemic. Added customized plugins to facilitate group quizzes, and calendar synchronizing with New-Innovations. Enhanced security measures to avoid inadvertent patient data uploading. Maintained over 500 hours of recorded lectures and over 1000 shared files and resources to augment asynchronous learning.

Designed and coded a patient database for the Pediatric Asthma Navigation Program. The database is customized with report generation web pages for each patient which incorporates all aspects of patient follow-up through the program. Designed an administrative report generator to analyze employee workflow and patient care dedication. Worked with the program manager to better analyze and formulate reports which are submitted to New York State. Ensured HIPAA compliance with intra-institutional hosting, end-to-end encryption using 256 bit SSL, and strict Bruteforce prevention through custom python scripting.

Designed a HIPAA Compliant web-based patient census for the pediatric and surgery departments to effectively reduce errors during patient handoff. During a change of shift the census allows for updated labs, orders, todo’s to be relayed to the oncoming team. Integrated PEAK Flow reminder based on patient diagnosis and antibiotic/narcotic dosing reminders for each patient. Integrated ICD-10 coding to better assist attending physicians with billing sheets. Added the ability to calculate the number of days each medication is given to a particular patient. Provided nursing read-only access to print patient “name plates” for bedside use with patient allergies and attending name. Ensured end-to-end encryption and secure storage of upwards of 1500 patients per annum.

Added the ability for the web-based census to generate “Code Sheets” for each pediatric patient. The sheets are placed at the patient's bedside and used during pediatric codes to ensure adequate dosing of resuscitative medications is pre-calculated based on patient weight. The sheets also indicate which tray the medications are in the crash cart.

Working directly with EHR datasets to identify outpatient compliance with statin prescriptions as per American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association guidelines. Creating workflow changes to automate reminders and capture discrete data elements for statin intolerance or refusal. Negotiating with payers to incentivize compliance per HEIDS metrics. Set goal to reduce the number of patients without documented statin prescriptions/refusal and/or intolerance from 30% to less than 10% over a 12-month period.
